Recognizing and effectively treating ADHD in adults is essential. Although the diagnostic manual was updated in 2013 to better capture adult presentations of ADHD, it still falls short in fully reflecting how the condition manifests and evolves throughout adulthood. Currently, there are no official U.S. guidelines for diagnosing and treating adult ADHD. However, the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD) has announced plans to develop and publish such guidelines, addressing a long-standing gap in care.
